Smoking cessation support
◆ Laws regarding the prevention of passive smoking and the University’s policyThe revised Health Promotion Act and Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance to Prevent Exposure to Second Hand Smoke was enacted with the aim of preventing unwanted passive smoking, and had been fully implemented since April 1, 2020. Since schools are classified as class 1 facilities under the law, smoking is completely prohibited indoors, and smoking rooms are not permitted. In addition, administrative guidance, administrative actions and penalties, including collections of fines, for violations for violations are stipulated in the law and ordinances.
Furthermore, the University established the " The University of Electro-Communications Policy to Prevent Passive Smoking " on December 6, 2009, in order to create a campus free of passive smoking, and it was decided that smoking will be prohibited on the entire campus from April 1, 2027. We ask that you prevent passive smoking, which has a negative impact on health, and promote the physical and mental health of students and staff, as well as promote health-related education and research.
1. Purpose The purpose of this document is to provide the basic policies to actively promote passive smoking prevention measures at the University of Electro-Communications (hereinafter referred to as the “University”) to enhance the health of University staff, students, etc., and create a pleasant campus environment.
2. Basic policies
(1) Smoking is prohibited on the university campus except for the designated smoking areas.
(2) Smoking inside university buildings is absolutely prohibited.
(3) Smoking while walking is prohibited.
(4) Smoking cessation support measures for smokers are provided.
(5) Raise awareness among students and staff about the health effects of smoking and passive smoking.
(6) These initiatives are promoted with the aim of completely eliminating smoking on campus.
◆ Smoking cessation support
Smoking is a serious social problem that affects not only the individual but also the health of those around them, including minors when passive smoking is taken into account. If you are a cigarette smoker, take this opportunity to think about giving up smoking. The Health Care Center provides support for smoking cessation, so please feel free to consult with us. Specifically, we listen to your concerns and worries about smoking cessation, work with you to find solutions, and, if necessary, refer you to medical institutions for smoking cessation treatment or prescribe smoking cessation aids (Nicotine patches).
